Allah's Name: Al Quddus

This week I am working on Allah's name - Al Quddus; Along with GIna's video, I look into other resources and books. Here are some interesting reflections that I would like to share with you.

Al Quddus (it is pronounced with a hard emphasis on the dd)

The Most Holy • The Absolutely Pure • The Perfectly Flawless • The Holy One free from any defect, fault, or deficiency. • He is exalted above everything we can imagine • He is free from injustice, ignorance, or weakness.

It is mentioned in the Quran twice, and in both times it comes with Al Malik. Surah Al-Hashr (59:23) and Surah Al-Jumu‘ah (62:1).

The Prophet ﷺ used this Name in rukū‘ and sujūd; The Prophet ﷺ used to say: سُبُّوحٌ قُدُّوسٌ رَبُّ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالرُّوحِ

“Perfectly Pure, Most Holy, Lord of the angels and the Spirit (Jibreel).” Reported in Sahih Muslim

Another beautiful Sunnah, after Witr prayer, the Prophet ﷺ would say three times: سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوس

“Glory be to The King, The Most Holy.” - Reported in Sunan Abu Dawood and Sunan An-Nasa'i

Meaning and Arabic Root

Root letters: ق د س (Qāf-Dāl-Sīn)

Root meanings include: Purity | Holiness | Blessing | Cleansing | Freedom from imperfection

From this root:

• الأرض المقدسة (Al Ardhul Muqadasa) = The Holy Land
• بيت المقدس (Bait Al Maqdis) = Jerusalem
• روح القدس (Rooh ul Qudus) = Jibreel - Alaihi essalam

When to use this Name in du‘a

This Name becomes powerful in certain emotional states.

🌿 When your heart feels spiritually dirty

After sins.After heedlessness.After dunya overload.

You call upon: يا قدوس، طهر قلبي O Most Holy, purify my heart.

Because purification belongs to Him.

🌿 When confused by evil in the world

You remember: Allah is Al-Quddūs.

Meaning: Even when creation becomes ugly, corrupt, unjust…

Allah Himself remains perfectly pure and just.

So your faith does not collapse because of people.

🌿 When trying to purify intentions

This Name helps fight: showing off, ego, arrogance, spiritual hypocrisy

Because Al-Quddūs loves purity: pure hearts, pure intentions, pure repentance
